Welcome to the May edition of what’s happening at Centerville Library! While the month isn’t quite as packed as others, it ushers in the summer months…and we ALL know what means – the big reading program! It’s a light programming month for the library, but there are still great events for everyone, so check it out:
We are kicking off the 1st day of May with our regular storytimes: lapsit @ 10:30 AM and toddlers @ 11:15 AM. We will be singing and reading all about shapes! Bring your little ones out as we tell fun tales about Abby’s Shapes and Wheels on the Bus! We’ll also be holding an encore toddler session on the 2nd @ 10:30 AM, plus a pre-K time @ 11:15 where we will read more fun books, such as Shape Capers. You won’t want to miss it!
On May 6th, we will be holding our regular homeschool activities: teens @ 2 PM and 3-6 grade @ 3 PM. Also at 3 PM, Ms. Heather will lead an all-ages storytime featuring Chester the cat (never heard of him? Learn all about him in my previous blog post). We will also hold bedtime stories on the 7th! This is the time where we read all the wonderful books we can’t seem to fit into a theme for regular storytimes, but they are so good we just can’t pass them up! Ms. Penny also does story-telling and fun song-singing, so bring your pajama-clad children of any age and come have some fun starting at 6:30 PM! We will also hold our regular storytimes on the 8th and 9th. We will continue learning about shapes, and read such books as Party of Three: A Book about Triangles and Two Short, Two Long: A Book about Rectangles. This also marks the last week of regular weekly programming – check our upcoming summer schedule for special events!
If you are a teen young librarian (and you know who you are!), we are holding a special meeting for you on May 21st. We will be discussing decorations for the summer reading program and potential prizes – let your voices be heard! Also, May 24th is the last day of school!!! But…none of you are really excited about that…are you? 🙂
Don’t forget – all Houston County Public Libraries will be closed on Monday, May 27th for Memorial Day. But after that, we will gear right back up on the 28th for our big Summer Vacation Reading Program Kick-off Bash! From 2-4 PM, we will have some serious drop-in fun for all ages, including origami-making and face-painting among many other activities! Best of all, this marks the first day of summer reading program registration! Come on out, have some fun, and sign up to READ with us all summer!
