Do you know a woman who makes a positive impact in her community? Is there someone who always seems to be making good things happen? We want to hear about it!
We imagine a wall of women’s faces. They don’t outwardly show any common thread. Some are young. Some are starting to show the laugh lines earned from a happy life. The skin tones are from every point in the range of possibilities. Some of the photos are obviously professional with perfect lighting and poses, airbrushed to perfection. Others are hastily snapped photos of a woman in action. What could they possibly all have in common?
They make our world a better place. Maybe they make their neighborhood better through their efforts. Maybe their time is spent with a community organization advancing literacy, breast cancer awareness, animal rights… or any other cause. Maybe their reach is global. Whatever their passion, they follow it and their community benefits.
Why are these women’s stories significant? Because not all historical contributions end up written down in history books, but that doesn’t make them any less significant. Here in our community, women are making sure that children have food in their bellies when they are out of school and no longer receiving a free lunch. To that child, the woman’s contribution is life changing.
Why share a wall? To inspire us all to find our own ways to improve the world around us. Helen Keller once said, “When we do the best we can, we never know what miracle is wrought in our life, or in the life of another.”
Perry Public Library recognizes that not all history makes it into the record books. In addition to a guest panel with inspiring stories, we will display Women of Distinction from here in our community. They are those who are making where we live a significantly better place through their caring, hard work, and dedication. We would love to honor them and inspire others to follow their example. Take a moment and nominate someone who has inspired you! Access a nomination form here and return it to Perry Library by February 9th, 2013.
