The rest of November is jam-packed with fun and educational activities for all ages, so check this out!
My 5 Senses: Special as Can Be!
We’ll start off with week 3 of November (12 – 17). For this week, story times will focus on taste, feel, smell, and sound. We will be reading some very exciting books such as You Can’t Taste a Pickle with your Ear and The Princess and the Pea. We will follow these fascinating stories with a craft that will allow young listeners to exercise their new knowledge of their senses – can you glue the nose in the right spot? Come find out during story time!
P.A.W.S. for Reading
Kejdi from P.A.W.S will also be at the library on this 3rd week (Saturday, November 17th). In case you have never met Kejdi, she is a very lovable Standard Poodle that absolutely LOVES to hear kids read to her! She is a registered therapy dog and is very good with children. This program is designed to encourage new or more experienced young readers to come out and read in a fun, non-threatening environment. The program will take place from 12 noon – 1 PM and advanced sign-up is required. There is no age limit, but your child must be able to read independently in order to participate.
INSIDE TIP: The P.A.W.S. for Reading in November currently has a wait list, but don’t be discouraged! we will have Lincoln the Lab come out on Friday, December 14. He still has some reading slots available, so register your child ASAP!
I Like Myself!
For the fourth week of November story times (19 – 24) we will be talking about liking yourself… just the way you are! Everyone is unique, and that’s something to celebrate. We will be reading books such as Eric Carle’s From Head To Toe and Dr. Seuss’ I Wish That I Had Duck Feet. Following the stories, we will make “mini me’s” with felt cut-outs, wiggly eyes, and markers!
Let’s Be Thankful
During the final week (Nov 6 – Dec 1), story time will be about no other than thankfulness. ‘Tis the season, and we want all our little ones to know how to truly be thankful for all their many blessings! Join us as we read ‘Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving and other great stories followed by a pilgrim-making session!
The November Teen Scene
It is the night of prom at Nordham Academy High School. A female student has been found injured and unconscious at the bottom of the gymnasium staircase. She has been identified as Amara Fahdi, a senior who had just been crowned prom queen. No witnesses to Amara’s fall have been identified at this point, but there are several suspects and detectives will be investigating the evidence. If you are between the ages of 11 & 17, come join us for a mystery theatre on Tuesday, November 20 at 6 PM! All parts will be played by either our local teens or adults that are still young at heart. Speaking and non-speaking characters are available, so sign up for your part today!
Our teens also need to remember that our film festival is in full swing! On November 27th at 6 PM, we will be having our red carpet night for all our film-makers. Come strut your stuff and show off… your film capabilities are amazing, and we want to make you feel like a movie star! If you have yet to sign up for the festival, drop by any Houston County Public Library and request entry instructions and permission forms today.
don’t forget that all Houston County Public Libraries will be closed on Monday, November 12 for the Veterans Day holiday. All libraries will also take a holiday for Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 22 – Friday, November 23. All libraries will re-open on Saturday, November 24 during regularly scheduled library hours.
