Do you have a superpower? Are you reading this? Then the answer is yes! You have the superpower of literacy! You can travel to faraway places, find adventure with the flip of a page or teach yourself anything. You can read!
And as we all know… with great power comes great responsibility. Are you willing to help others to develop their superpower? 14 to 17 year olds who want to share their superpower with K – 5th graders are invited to join The Amazing Readers Club as a reading coach. Teens who have served as reading coaches have reported great benefits. Teens develop a sense of responsibility, improved reading skills, and greater motivation in their own studies.
Hey kids, would you like to develop your reading superpower? Increase your reading fluency? Improve comprehension? Make reading fun? Then we want you in The Amazing Readers Club! Students in K through 5th grades have reported all of these benefits when working with a reading coach.
The Amazing Readers Club will begin September 20th and run through December 6th, 2012. Younger students are partnered with a reading coach. Partners meet up at Perry Public Library every Thursday afternoon. Coaches and readers are assigned a 25 minute time slot. They spend this time reading to one another just for the love of reading. ARC coaches and members will track their efforts and attend a special library reception upon completion of the program.
Perry Library is looking for a few good super heroes between the ages of 14 to 17 to join The Amazing Readers Club. Young adults will serve as literacy coaches for students in grades K – 5th. Qualities desired in reading coaches are helpfulness, patience, dependability, and a love of reading.
