The Perry Library Mature & Valuable Patrons (MVPs) have hit the ground running! We have initiated a number of activities on behalf of the library in general. While the MVP group is exclusive to only those over 55, you don’t have to be over 55 to benefit from their work.
Next up is Holiday Outreach to our military overseas. Our MVPs will be collecting unused Christmas cards and envelopes. The cards will be filled with holiday cheer on behalf of Perry Public Library. We will send them to military members spending their holidays away from their loved ones. Hearts to Heroes will be coordinating the delivery of these on our behalf.
If you would like to make sure our service men and women know that we appreciate your service, you can help! Just drop off your unused Christmas cards and their envelopes at the Perry Library before September 5th.
To participate in the signing of cards to spread holiday cheer, you must be an MVP. Not an MVP yet? No worries! Show up to Perry Library on Friday, September 7th at 10:30 for our regularly scheduled advisory board meeting.
Each meeting has settled into a predictable rhythm. We start with some fun and meander through four concentrations: programming, volunteering, advisory, and advocacy. MVPs help coordinate and facilitate programming for seniors and library patrons of all ages. Some of our MVPs attend because they want to invest time in their libraries. They visit regularly outside of our meeting times to shelve books and assist with library special events. Advisory services offer guidance on material selections and library accessibility. Some members are purely motivated by the desire to be an advocate for our library within the community. They want to show the community what the library has to offer and why it’s important.
It doesn’t matter which one or if all of these functions appeals to you. We like to think of our MVP advisory board as a buffet. Help yourself to the items that interest you and leave everything else for the next person. We always throw in some laughter and yummy treats!
Join us the first Friday of each month at 10:30!
