It’s time to start digging in!

It’s the time of year that folks start getting your hands dirty! Gardening, planting, landscaping and more. We’ve planned ahead and have some great resources to help you and your garden be fruitful.

Start off with The Complete Gardener’s Guide

It’s everything you need to know to create and care for your garden. It includes design ideas, guidance on proper plant selection, and dealing with weeds.

Looking for the perfect something for that special spot? Or trying to determine just what side of the house you should plant that montanum on? Plant it on the south side. The Encyclopedia of Plants & Flowers from the American Horticultural Society has the answers!

The Encyclopedia of Plants & Flowers is so much more than a simple plant catalog. Beautiful photography of more than 5,000 plants arranged as an A-Z plant dictionary. It’s also step-by-step how-to manual for planting, pruning, and sowing seeds.

Considering a garden that feeds your belly as well as your spirit? Check out The Heirloom Life Gardner from Jere & Emilee Gettle. This book is a comprehensive guide to heirloom gardening.

The Heirloom Life Gardener includes information on the heirloom seed movement and eating locally. The guide is actually focused on planting, growing, and harvesting your own vegetables. It is arranged alphabetically and promises to have something for beginners and experts alike.

Looking for some inspiration for your southern garden? There’s no place better than to look locally! James T. Farmer III is a local from Houston County with a new book, A Time To Plant, Southern-Style Garden Living.

The photography is beautiful but that’s just the beginning. The book focus is on garden living. The lifestyle of harvesting your own food, decorating with your own creations, and entertaining in your own southern garden.

All of these books can be found at the Perry Public Library. Give a call at 987-3050 or stop by to check them out.
