Last week, we began displaying numerous cookbooks picked by each of our staff members at the Nola Brantley Memorial Library. Since the holidays are upon us, most of the picks are helpful baking ideas. One of our staff members was hunting a good cake-baking book when she found this – Apocalypse Cakes: Recipes for the End. This is definitely not your ordinary cake book … in fact, it may be 80% fun, 20% cake-baking useful. It does, however, include actual recipes and pictures for each finished work, so you may want to drop in and check it out for a good laugh while you bake!
The abstract for this book is as follows:
“The end is near, so…eat cake! 2012, oil spills, pending war, Satanic rituals, meteorites, lustful indulgences. The manner may be up for discussion, but most people feel that the end is coming soon. If you are feeling anxious about the approaching apocalypse, just laugh in the face of doom, face your fears mouth first, and bake the appropriate cake: 2012 Mayan chocolate cup cakes, BP oil black bottom cake, Hail the devil’s food cake, Impending meteorite rock candy cake, Obesity epidemic pound cake, and many more.”
The description speaks for itself! This book can be found under Dewey number 641.8 OMA.
