Home Made: 200 Creative Concoctions and Practical Potions for Crafts, Beauty Aids, Household Products, and Gifts from Your Kitchen by Alexa Lett.

This is a great book for anyone pursuing a green lifestyle, enjoys Do-It-Yourself projects or is just looking for some fun crafting. The contents cover pretty much all those areas listed in the title and more!!

A great recipe for this time of year is the Body Paint recipe listed on page 139. The author states this is ideal for Halloween and kids parties. The best part is that it truly is made up of ingredients readily available around the house!

Body Paint

6 teaspoons cornstarch

3 teaspoons cold cream

3 teaspoons water

Food coloring

In the wells of a muffin tin, for each color mix 1 teaspoon cornstarch, ½ teaspoon cold cream and ½ teaspoon water. Blend thoroughly. Add a few drops of food coloring, stirring well to create the color of choice.

If you are planning further ahead, don’t miss the chapter “Gift recipes you can’t eat.” Wonderful ideas for holiday gift giving include cinnamon ornaments, an assortment of candles and even permanent sand castles.

Home Made is currently on the shelf at the Perry branch library along other with other great craft books around Dewey number 745.5
