Did you know that the Houston County Public library has a fun, fast and easy language learning program called Mango Languages? This online resource enables Houston County Public Library patrons to access multiple language learning opportunities for free! All you need is a Houston County Public Library card and internet access.
The Mango Language Learning system is available in two versions:
Perfect for a foreign language beginner, Mango Basic teaches everyday greetings, gratitudes, goodbyes and helpful phrases in a short period of time. The courses, which require only two to five hours of time to complete, are currently available to Houston County Library patrons in many different foreign languages including German, Spanish, and French. This language learning software also offers Spanish to English courses.
Mango Complete offers a 100-lesson course that digs much deeper and is designed to provide a more complete understanding of the entire language and culture. It is available to Houston County Library patrons in all five listed foreign languages plus Spanish to English learning.
Last month, I had a patron visit our library inquiring about information on Germany. I directed him to our non-fiction book section on the topic, but realized that he may also be interested in learning the language. After asking him about this, he stated that he was planning to take some college courses on German, but was not sure if he could afford it. I immediately told him about our Mango program through the Houston County Library System and he was very excited. I gave him instructions on accessing the database and, within a few weeks, he had learned all the basic German phrases and was excited to continue on to Mango Complete to further his knowledge. He was very grateful for this service, and was happy to know that he could learn this language free of charge.
